The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers is planning on installing a revetment right on top of Alamo, the surf spot right under the Montauk Point Lighthouse, endangering the waves there and at nearby Turtle Cove. It looks as though it’s going to happen, as the plans have been in the making for some time now, and $1 mil was spent on the study thus far.
The erosion specialists, however, are claiming that the waves should not be affected by the revetment. Surfers know from experience that even the most delicate tampering with shoreline geography will lead to an altered wave. Only time will tell if the Alamo is going to be around for the next generation to enjoy or not.
